The National Unity Platform Political Party today announced their flag bearer for the Kawempe North by-election in an event organised at the party headquarters in Makarere Kavule.
The chairman of the National Unity Platform Election Management Committee announced Layer Luyimbazi Nalukoola and the successful candidate among the twelve (12) people who expressed interest.
Speaking at the party headquarters after the announcement was made Nalukola thanked the president and the entire party management and all the stakeholders for the support and assured them to work hard.
He added that even if he was not announced as flag bearer he wasn’t willing to stand as an independent and asked the rest of the candidates to do the same.
After the announcement one of the candidates, businessman Moses Nsereko, broke down after failing to secure the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket to contest for the Kawempe North MP seat in the forthcoming by-election. He came ninth out of 10 aspirants with 14.2%, while the ticket was won by Lawyer Erias Luyimbazi Nalukoola, who scored 71.4%.
NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine urged all party members who had expressed interest in contesting for the Kawempe North MP seat in the forthcoming by-election to rally behind the party’s flag bearer, seasoned lawyer Erias Luyimbazi Nalukoola, who was declared by the election management committee.
Uganda’s electoral commission set 23th March 2025 as the polling day for the by-election.
